Early in the
Japanese occupation, there was a belief organization of Luban union in Lukang area. The organization’s operation
team, including the annual furnace master, vice furnace
master, team lead, and other team members need to go out
to raise “public money” in order to hold the activities
such as welcoming gods, worship, furnace master voting,
and blessing food. The craftsmen believe that the annual
furnace master selected by Luban will receive blessings
for their business, so the ceremony of the furnace
master election is serious and reverent. |

1. The president of
Jhaoyang Lukang Association, Tung-liang Li, and the
current furnace master, Tso-hsiu Chen, offered incense
in worship and asked Luban to select a new furnace
master for next year.

The current furnace master, Mr. Tso-hsin Chen, kneeled
down in front of Luban and threw divination blocks
according to the name list. The name, which won the most
divination blocks, would become the new furnace master.
Since there were many people on the list, it took very
long time to complete this procedure. However, every
divination throw must be serious and reverent.
