1. What¡¦s your impression with the Lukang Spring Flower? Have you ever seen the Spring Flower?
The mayor has seen the Spring Flower. This traditional craft of Lukang is the promoting project that the town hall has been paying much attention to. The amount of Spring Flowers in the Lukang area was huge in the early years; many women had participated in the production. Therefore, the styles of the Spring Flowers made in Lukang have become the major ones in central and southern Taiwan.
2. What thoughts and plans do you have to pass on and continue the Lukang traditional crafts?
The town hall has paid tremendous attention to ways of passing on and continuing these valuable cultural assets. For the main approach, we refurbished an old Japanese style dormitory and named it Osmanthus Alley Art Village. We moved in artists, created a show platform for traditional craft artists, and counseled them to teach classes so that these traditional crafts might be carried on and passed on.
3. Lukang used to have the reputation of a cultural center and has preserved many historical monuments and religious cultures. What kind of substantial plan does Lukang Township have to preserve Lukang¡¦s monuments?
¡@    Right now, the Urban Planning Act appoints the Lukang Old Street, Pu-Tou Street and Yao-Lin Street, as the heritage preservation district. Others such as Long-Shan Temple, Tian-Hou Temple, Wen-Wu Temple, Di-Zhan-Wang Temple, Xing-An Temple, were listed for heritage preservation and intangible cultural heritage.
4. To promote Lukang and let more people learn the Lukang¡¦s characteristics, is Lukang holding or planning to promote any activity?
Lukang is currently holding activities for the Winter Tour. The content contains a toys amusement park, dream exhibition platform, month of traditional arts, Lukang snack feast, concert and so on. The month of traditional arts creates close interactions for tourists and artists moving into Osmanthus Alley Art Village so that tourist will recall Osmanthus Alley Art Village when they recall Lukang. This is an imagery connection. The same concept applies to the Lukang snack feast; it¡¦s an activity showing Lukang characteristics.
5. What¡¦s your idea for building the Lukang Township?
My idea and value is to put the town in top priority and to make Lukang happy. Government exists for people so it¡¦s very important to create happiness for people. Therefore, I will continue to develop the tourism, which is vital for Lukang prosperity. With everyone¡¦s effort, Lukang was selected as one of the top ten tourist towns this year.
6. What type of town characteristics would you like to build for Lukang?
Of course, for the points of Lukang self-characteristics, we want to build a town with cultural tour characteristics. The content of the cultural tour would include the cultural history, monuments, temples, traditional crafts and snacks of Lukang. These characteristics are not replaceable by other towns, and are uniquely owned by Lukang.
7. What suggestion and expectation do you have for our Spring Flower project?
I am glad that students can use the Spring Flower, one of Lukang¡¦s traditional crafts, to create this project. This shows positive actions towards the preservation of Lukang¡¦s traditional crafts. I suggest that students collect more information from different areas, interview more people, and make good records. I also expect this project to produce good results, and earn glory for Lukang.
